Terms of Service
Effective 13 October 2026
Ingredient recognition and recipes are generated by AI. You must check ingredients, allergens, use-by dates and cooking temperatures yourself before you cook or eat anything. Fridgelight is not a substitute for medical or dietary advice. Allergy settings reduce the risk but do not remove it.
1. Who we are
Fridgelight is an independent service based in Scotland, UK, and is provided to you at fridgelight.app under the trading name Fridgelight. "We", "us" and "our" mean the operator of Fridgelight. The quickest way to reach us, for anything from a question to a complaint, is hello@fridgelight.app. We reply from that address and we aim to answer within two working days.
2. About these terms
These terms apply when you use Fridgelight. By using the service you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use it. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.
3. What Fridgelight does
You photograph your fridge. The app uses an AI model to recognise ingredients, suggests one dinner, and walks you through cooking it. We may change or improve the service from time to time.
4. Who can use it
You must be 16 or over to use Fridgelight. If you are under 16, please do not use the service.
5. AI and food safety
- Recognition can miss items or identify them wrongly.
- Recipes are generated and may be inaccurate, incomplete or unsuitable for you.
- You are responsible for checking ingredients, allergens, use-by dates, storage and cooking temperatures.
- Allergy and dislike settings help the AI avoid certain foods. They reduce risk but cannot guarantee a dish is safe.
- Fridgelight does not give medical, nutritional or dietary advice. Speak to a qualified professional if you have a medical condition or a serious allergy.
Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility where the law does not allow it. See section 12.
6. Free dinners and no account needed
Your first three dinners are free. You do not need an account. We use an anonymous session cookie to recognise your device. If you clear your cookies or switch device, your free dinners and history may not carry over.
7. Paid plans
After your free dinners you can continue with a subscription:
- £3.99 a month, or
- £29.99 a year.
Prices include any VAT that applies. Payments are taken by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel.
8. Cancelling
You can cancel at any time. Your access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not charge you again after you cancel. We do not usually refund part of a period that has started, except as set out in section 9 or where the law requires it.
9. Your 14 day right to cancel
Under UK consumer law you normally have 14 days from signing up to a digital service to change your mind.
When you subscribe, you ask us to start the service straight away. You agree that your right to cancel is lost once the service has been fully performed. If you cancel within the 14 days before the service has been fully performed, you will get a refund for the part you have not used. We will deduct a fair amount for what you have already received, calculated pro rata.
To cancel and ask for a refund, email hello@fridgelight.app. Refunds go back to your original payment method, normally within 14 days.
10. Fair use
A daily scan limit applies to prevent abuse. Please do not try to get round it, share automated access, copy the service, overload it or use it for anything unlawful. We may limit or suspend access if these terms are broken.
11. Your photos and content
You keep ownership of your photos. You give us permission to process them to provide the service, as described in our Privacy Policy. Only upload photos you are entitled to use, and try to keep people and personal documents out of the frame. Photos are automatically deleted within 24 hours.
12. Our responsibility
We provide the service with reasonable care and skill. We cannot promise that it will always be available or error free.
We are not responsible for loss or harm that comes from relying on AI output without checking it, including food allergies, food poisoning or undercooked food, except where the law does not allow us to exclude responsibility.
We do not limit or exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Your statutory consumer rights are not affected. Subject to that, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
13. Third parties
We use trusted providers to run the service. These are Cloudflare (hosting, storage and database), Anthropic (ingredient recognition and recipe generation), Google Gemini (illustrative dish images from the dish name only) and Stripe (payments). Their own terms apply to their services. See our Privacy Policy for details.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use Fridgelight after that means you accept the new terms. If you do not accept them, you can cancel.
15. Ending your use
You can stop using Fridgelight at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms. If we end a paid plan for any reason other than your breach, we will refund the unused part of the period.
16. Governing law
These terms are governed by Scots law and the courts of Scotland. This does not affect any rights you have as a consumer in the country where you live, including the right to bring a claim in your local courts.
